APB spin-offs
A sporadic post after a long leave of absence. Heartfelt thanks to friends who have been coming back here all this while to check for updates. Not sure if I'll be picking up the habit of regularly updating again, though. Depending on my mood I guess.
Agriculture has widely been seen as an impediment to a country's growth, because more of country's resources devoted to agriculture means less resources that can be devoted to other sectors of the economy, such as manufacturing and services, the perceived driving force of economic powerhouses.
So you want economic growth. You cut back on agricultural spending; its share of GDP continually decreases, with manufacturing and services (particularly IT services in India) picking up the slack. This seems in all a very rosy picture for the development of third world countries trying to rub shoulders with economies of first world countries.
You might be thinking, this is cool isn't it, it means more people will soon be emerging from poverty. I can't deny that. But what if you were to think of the bigger picture? If everyone were to cut back on agriculture, abandon farming for the sake of working in big factories that produce steel, electronics etc.. Converting what little precious arable land we have into plant sites and residential areas.. How is the whole world going to be fed in the long term? Will there be enough grain and produce to go around in the long term if this trend keeps up?
Bring in as well all the damage we're doing to the environment. Air, water and land pollution; Over-poaching of the eco-chain; extensive deforesting.. We don't have to worry so much about alien attacks like those depicted in Hollywood sci-fi horror movies. I swear, men really are bent on bringing forth their own extinction in the generations to come. We are the masters of our own destruction. Sad, isn't it.
