first day sentiments
Today is my first day at work, which didn't really feel like work because there wasn't any work done. Which is to be expected, since you can't possibly start working when you haven't been properly introduced to the everyday operations of the company, the staff, the software, etc etc. But ironically, I knew all that already, thanks to my 1 month stint last December. But protocol is protocol, so I didn't really have much choice (actually, ANY choice) but to go through all the same old briefings, talks, office tour and rounds of awkward introductions with the entire department. Which made me really bored, and even more tired than usual. Which is really saying something, considering that I have an usually short attention span and have tendencies to doze off real easily during lects/briefings/talks/seminars, no matter how awake I am, no matter how much coffee I drink, or even no matter how interesting I find the topic/speaker. Needless to say, today has been one dreadful long, boring day at work. And I am also very very sad to report that the next 2 days to come will be even more dreadful. Because there is no office tour tomorrow, and all the introductions have been done. So what's left is only the booooring talks with nothing remotely interesting to distract me from my meetings with grandpa zhou.
On a separate note, I also want to kick myself in the ass for stupidly NOT putting in my ang-moh name onto the record. Now EVERYTHING reads my chinese name, which NOBODY knows (or would remember, anyway, since I introduced myself as alice.) Just great. When people receive emails they're probably NOT going to find my name on the address book, my name cards are just going to confuse everyone, and then I'll probably start hating my own name. Haha kidding. Probably not.
First day of work has been really tiring... I think I should be sleeping quite early today. If I manage to fall asleep. Considering the number of cups of coffee I've drunk today.............
